I'm guessing most of us have some yoghurt in the fridge. Whether it be full fat, low fat, no-fat, plain, fruit, sweetened, no-added sugar, pot set, cow's milk, goat's milk or soy we all seem to find a place for yoghurt in our diets. Is yoghurt really a ‘health food’?

Russian scientist, Dr Elie Metchnikoff (1845-1919) in the early 1900s, claimed that yoghurt was responsible for the longevity of the Bulgarians. He thought that the ‘friendly' live Lactobacillus bacteria in yoghurt had a beneficial effect on our intestines. Research today appears to confirm this.
